Want to get you groove on? Want to celebrate your guilds 5 year anniversary in style? Just wanna have some fun? Well today we are going to guide you through the process of throwing a successful in game party and/or event. Enjoy!
First, of course, you need an idea or multiple ideas. An in game event can be anything from one simple game to a full blown night of fun in the guild hall. Its up to you. To get your mind going here are a few good ideas that have worked well in the past:
1. Races: There’s the classic naked noob race, where every one makes a lvl 1 character and removes all their armor and must get to a certain point.
2. Find Me: Every one meets at once starting location, then are given a clue about where the next person is located. When players arrive at that point they are given another clue and so on and so forth. The first person to the last point wins!
3. Duels: Every one likes a good duel if your game allows it. You can do single elimination or even teams.
4. Dice: Most games have a dice rolling option (/random 100. etc) There are many betting games with dice such as craps. Just /random 6 twice for 2 dice.
5. Dance Parties: Don’t underestimate the power of the /dance emote. Get some exotic dancers and free beers and have fun. Also you can square dance, just teach every one the moves. (left, right, jump, /wave, then jump again)
6. Frog Jump: Every one sits in a line, then back person jumps over each person then sits in the front
7. Naked Gnome (or insert your shortest PC here) attack mob: Every one makes a lvl 1 then you all /sit/stand people as a mob. My personal favorite.
8. Gnome/Dwarf punting: This is more of a sport than a game.
Next is the hard part, planning and organization. If you don’t have your event well organized and well staffed, it will die like an add on a mage
. First, you need to plan out every stage of your event, how it will happen, step by step. After that create a list of all the things you’ll need. (i.e. prizes, game food and drink, etc ) Once you have done these its on to the next step.
Recruit helpers. Make sure you have enough people to help. Even if your event requires no one but your self. Make sure a few people know how everything works.
After that its time for promotion! I cannot stress how important this is. Start a week before and start telling people on forums, in game tells, and guild announcements. Remember there is a fine line between promoting an event and spam. So leave 10 minute intervals if you are doing it in an in game channel. Also, get other guilds involved and have them contribute and promote as well. If your server is tight knit you can really throw some crazy big parties.
Once its the day of remember to continue announcing it to the last second. This is not only for promotion so people come, but so that people who planned on coming know the event is on and actively happening. Make sure its clear where and when people should show up for your event.
Most likely you will have to explain the event. If you can get every one in voice chat that is great, if not create macros of the explanation so you can just post them in succession. Remember to have patience, you will have to re-explain a few times and answer clarification questions.
Be exited, people will only be as into it as you are so give it all and don’t look back
Make sure to follow through quickly on prizes, its best to give it to them there in front of everyone. This will strengthen peoples interest in your next party!
Well there you have it, a simple guide to throwing interesting and fun in game events. So go throw one and liven up your server, and if your up to it, throw us an invite as well. We love to party!
